Citadel Hill

We realized that if we were waiting for good weather to get us out and about to explore what Nova Scotia has to offer, we were going to be waiting a long, long time. Today was a crisp 1 degree Celsius! We headed into downtown Halifax to visit Citadel Hill, a National Historic Site of Canada. First established in the 1700's, it has been rebuilt 4 times with the intention of protecting the Protestant settlers from raids against the French, Acadians, and Wabanaki Confederacy (First Nations). The stronghold was never attacked. I'm not sure I would be to interested in climbing the hill and scaling the walls either… especially in the dead of winter. No thank you!

Below is an aerial image of the star shaped fortress. It took 28 years to complete and was designed after Louis XIV's commissary of a similar fortification.
