Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia

The sun came out today! Hallelujah!! So we decided to get out and enjoy it while it lasted! About 43 km southwest of Halifax is a little village some of you may have heard of? Peggy's Cove. A beautiful little fishing community, famous for it's "Peggy's Point Lighthouse", but that isn't all there is to see. Scattered throughout the area are colourful cottages, fishing boats, an old historic church, and let's not ignore the beautiful ocean vistas! Of course there are a couple of tiny tourist shops, a small art gallery and a place to get some hot coffee and home cooking to warm you up! Anyhoo! You may ask yourself, where did the name Peggy's Cove come from? Well there are a few tales. The one I enjoy in particular is as follows…. In the early 1800's a schooner was shipwrecked off shore with one lone survivor, a young girl. With no memory of her past or her name, she was adopted by a local family, giving her the name Peggy. She then became known as "Peggy of the Cove", drawing visitors from around the nearby area wanting to make her acquaintance. The residents then decided to name the village after her…. "Peggy's Cove".

Do you see the name on the street sign!?

The landscape of Peggy's Cove was formed thousands of years ago by the movement of glaciers and the ocean's tides
Ahoy Matey!!
Thought I would get a little shopping in!

About one km northwest of the cove is a memorial for Swissair flight 111, which crashed off the shore on September 2nd, 1998. 229 men, women and children perished. The 3 notches represent the numbers 111.
