Tourists for the day

Yesterday we decided to hit one of the local tourist attractions. "London Bridge" at Lake Havasu City. Here is a brief history of the bridge…..

There have been several bridges built over the Thames River, dating back to the year 1176. By the end of the 18th century, one of the old London Bridges needed to be replaced. As time was ticking by it was sinking at the rate of an inch every eight years. In 1967, the Common Council of the City of London placed the bridge on the market and began to look for potential buyers. In 1968 the winning bid went to entrepreneur and Lake Havasu City founder Robert P. McCulloch for $2,460,000. Each block was numbered before being disassembled. The blocks were then shipped overseas through the Panama Canal to California and trucked from Long Beach to Arizona, where the bridge was reconstructed. In the end the total cost of the bridge, including shipping was $5.1 million. Quite a sight to see in the middle of the desert!

Here is an interesting photo of the bridge being reassembled.
