Quebec and the free camping challenge!

Well, we haven't travelled very far since our last post, but we have visited some great little towns! Currently we are overnighting at a Walmart in Vaudreuil-Dorion Quebec, a town about 30 minutes west of Montreal. Oh so glamorous! Haha! Like today's title says... We are attempting to camp for free for the next 2 weeks! Will we succeed? We are now on night #5! Actually, It isn't as bad as it sounds! During the day we get some miles under our belts and do our sight seeing! Having picnics at National and Provincial parks, and exploring small towns along the way! In the evenings we take advantage of Walmart's hospitality! Most stores allow you to park overnight as long as you park on the out skirts of their lot. So insulting! LOL! Anyways! It's very handy if you run out of supplies like M&M's, water or Graham's favourite, "Bounty" with select-a-size! Oh! And there is always a clean bathroom to use! To much information right? Haha! As for showering we have been learning from other travellers. Yesterday in the town of Levis Quebec we visited a new aquatic centre with the intentions of going for a swim, and of course.... a shower! Unfortunately the pool was closed for another hour but a woman at the counter told us to go on in and use the showers for free! It was fantastic! Thank you kind stranger! It was a beautiful clean complex, with hot water, shiny chrome faucets, crisp shower curtains and not another soul! Now here we are in a different town and a new sports centre down the road! Guess what we're doing tomorrow! Anyhoo! One more thing I must tell you, there is always FREE INTERNET! And fast! Unlike the crappy Internet at most campgrounds! So here we are, night number 5, and we are the only trailer on this enormous lot, like a needle in a hay stack! The last few nights it has been like an RV extravaganza! Always at least 20 other campers! Everything from large luxury buses, to good ole Westys! We also have one other option up our sleeves. Through the recommendation of another RV blogger, thanks Kay! We have bought a $40 membership to "Harvest Hosts"! A network of wineries, farms, and agri-tourism sites that allow you to camp overnight for FREE! Our first visit to one will be a honey bee farm on our way to Ottawa! How cool is that!? Ok, our computer charge is fading, one down fall... No electricity. I will now leave you with some photos from the last few days!

Some of our Walmart neighbours! Why pay $30-40 for one night?!
Riviere du Loup's "Parc des Chutes"! Riviere du Loup was one of the first towns in the lower St. Lawrence to produce electricity from hydro electric power!

  1. We're on the road again Jen and have just stayed at a Harvest Host site - an alpaca farm where we saw a 5 hour old newborn alpaca - it was so awesome!!! Alpacas have great "personality" faces - each their own look. I'll be posting some photos on our new blog : http://travelingnavion.blogspot.com
