O'Leno State Park, Florida

We have arrived at last! Stayed at our first Florida State Park. What a treat! One of Florida's first state parks, developed in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corp. Located along the banks of the Santa Fe River and a tributary of the Suwannee River (Yes, this river has a song written after it, "The Old Folks at home" also known as "The Ole' Swanee River"! Florida's State song!) . The park features sinkholes, hardwood hammocks (closed canopy forests), river swamps and sand hills. The park was well laid out with huge, private camping sites, nice clean showers and great hiking trails, all for the bargain basement price of $22 a night! Gotta love State Parks! We stayed two nights then hit the road once again, driving 6 hours to another State Park just south of Naples and east of Marco Island. No internet at the park and we have just finished our coffees bringing our internet time at Starbucks to an end. Below are a few photos of O'Leno State Park. Chat again soon!

The top band I'm pointing at was the flooding levels back in 1964, the one below that was 2004. Hard to imagine the river coming that high!
