Texas Hill Country Y'all!
Hey folks! We are currently staying at a beautiful campground in New Braunfels, Texas, about 1 hour north east of San Antonio. "The Lazy L & L Campground" is situated on the Guadalupe River in the Hill Country. Very popular for tubing.. or as they spell it, toobing! The river is amazing, slow moving, turquoise green, with big ole' oak, cypress and pecan trees lining the shores. Apparently this area is quite the destination for spring breakers, not to mention fishing! There are fly fishermen/women everywhere. You can see them standing thigh high in hip waders, or floating down the river in kayaks and canoes. So how many of you have heard of the "Texas Hill Country"? Until a few years ago, Graham and I had never heard of it either. On a trip to New Orleans we met a couple in our hotel bar that told us it was one of their favourite vacation spot, since then it has been on our list of places to see. So here we are! It was well worth the wait. Now the drive doesn't consist of just hopping on the I-35. You need to veer off the freeway and go explore along one of the many country roads! The Hill Country is the area between and around San Antonio and Austin. Rolling hills, ranches, wineries, caverns, rivers, quirky towns, and roadside bbq's to name a few of the attractions. It is often called the Texans Backyard! The Hill Country is second to Florida as one of the most popular places to retire in the U.S. So if you ever have a chance to go visit.. go!!
