Leaving Texas today! We have just spent our last two days in Beaumont. Not our favourite spot by far, but a good place to rest and get out for a good walk. We came across Tyrrell Park and Cattail Marsh. A great place for bird watching, and wildlife photography. We took a walk around the marsh which is a 900 acre constructed wetland, built in 1993. It was built by the city of Beaumont Water Utilities Department as the final polishing phase of the waste water treatment system. The natural and innovative process has attracted the interest of environmentalist and wildlife professionals across the state.
YUP! We are starting to venture into Alligator territory! For the first 30 minutes of this walk around the marsh we were very nervous! Every splash of water, rustle of reed, and squawk of a bird made us jump! Eventually we relaxed up a bit, but didn't slow down our pace! LOL!
Also in the park is a Botanical Garden which we checked out. It began in 1968 and is funded through fund-raisers and donations.
The first sighting of "Caution Aggressive Alligators", and I would have high-tailed it out of there! I bet you had Mango on a short leash!
